Move, replace, and restore files

Move, rename, replace, delete, or restore files and follow their reference-update jobs.

From a file's menu, choose Move or rename. Edit File name and choose Folder path from the folder tree, or type a project-relative path. Choose Project root or leave Folder path empty to move to the root. Save applies the change; Cancel leaves it unchanged. An occupied destination is not overwritten.

Move or rename and Replace have Update references in this project checked by default. Review the preview before saving; an unavailable or partial preview is not confirmation of no matches. Uncheck the option to leave references unchanged.

Updates cover current manuscripts, Reference and Guidance, and supported project, book, and manuscript settings, including image/audio choices, sound cues, defaults, effects, and replacement artwork. They do not rewrite prose, saved versions, publication snapshots, or exported files.

The file change and reference updates finish separately. Open Jobs & Alerts > Open Job Status, then the file job's Details. Review each result; Retry unfinished updates retries failed work, not completed changes. Stop remaining updates stops unapplied work without rollback. Completed changes stay in place, and unresolved references may remain. Resolve or stop an unfinished job before changing the same file again.

Replace uploads a new file at the same location. Its job waits for upload processing even if reference updates are unchecked; references change only when the replacement is ready. Check Details if processing needs attention.

Delete file hides it from normal lists and pickers; existing direct references can still use it. Show deleted reveals Restore file. Restore cannot overwrite another active file at that location. For a deleted file with a replacement, Update references lets you review and update current project references to that replacement later. Historical saved versions are unchanged.
