Provider keys are credentials needed by external services such as OpenAI or xAI text-to-speech and assistant providers. They are project-scoped so authorized project members can prepare audio with a configured provider key without seeing the secret.
Adding or replacing a key requires the administrator-granted project.byok.configure scope. Existing keys can still be used or cleared after that scope is removed; sign out and back in after an administrator changes access.
For OpenAI and xAI speech, choose Included narration minutes when BadgerLeaf should fund the provider call. Daily, weekly, and billing-period allowances apply. Choose Your provider account when the provider should charge the key owner; this does not consume included narration minutes.
Plan allowance counts only successfully synthesized audio, even if the enclosing job later fails. Failed, ambiguous, and cached attempts consume no included narration minutes. BadgerLeaf reconciles any provider billing for unsuccessful or uncertain calls separately and never turns it into customer narration usage.
BadgerLeaf never switches between plan funding and a project key automatically. If the selected source is unavailable or has reached a limit, choose another available source and submit again.
xAI voices are discovered from the provider. A configured voice that later disappears remains selected with an unavailable warning until you intentionally replace it.
Add only keys required for the project. Rotate or remove keys that should no longer be used. If a audio preparation or publishing fails because a provider is unavailable, check the selected funding source, provider key, and voice configuration together.
Open Project Settings immediately above Project library in the Explorer. It starts collapsed. Choose General, Typography, Headings & contents, or Voices to edit in the main workspace. Switching sections keeps your drafts and scroll position. Save changes saves all changed sections and keeps the page open. In nested editors, Apply changes adds edits to the project draft; save the project afterward. Leaving with unsaved edits offers keep or discard. Book and manuscript settings remain in their own dialogs; they can override inherited project defaults where supported. Provider secrets are never retained after leaving the project settings session.
Provider keys appears only for users approved to use their own provider keys (BYOK). Silence at the edges of synthesized speech is trimmed automatically; there is no toggle. Authored pauses and heading/block timing are unchanged.
General contains only the project chat toggle. Put project background and author guidance in Project library > Reference and Guidance, not a description field. Existing description metadata is preserved; saving settings neither migrates it nor overwrites the reference document.
